2007

In 2007, the Herbert Mahne Family Foundation was pleased to award the Firefighters Burn Institute a grant to develop a new burn recovery program for children ages 3 years old through 6 years old and their caregivers. This unique three day program will focus on healthy recovery and skill building activities, and has been designed specifically for preschool children who have suffered severe burns. For preschoolers, the program provides children the opportunity to socialize with other burn survivors. On site education, counseling and support for parents and caregivers will also be provided. Little Heroes Burn Camp will be the first Program of its kind. For more information please visit their website at www.ffburn.org.

2008

Due to economic climate in 2008 and lack of response, there were no grants issued in 2008.

2009

The Herbert Mahne Family Foundation awarded a grant to the Burn Center at Regions Hospital in St. Paul Minnesota, the grant will make the Burn Center a friendlier place for children of all ages who spend time on the unit. For a child recovering from a serious burn injury, time spent on an intensive care unit can be an intense and scary place, where much of the time is spent undergoing painful procedures in a sterile environment where kids are not allowed to just be kids.

This grant will give young patients a safe place to relax where they can play and socialize with other children. It will give them toys, games and technologies that will allow them to have fun and express their creative sides, stay in touch with family and friends, and begin re-integrating into school. We hope it will rehabilitate their body, mind and spirit.
